What Successful People Can Teach You About Imposter Syndrome

One of the great leadership challenges can be overcoming imposter syndrome. This leadership coaching post will help you to smash through that.

The Tip

This week's tip is the simplest I have yet to share.

Do you ever have that feeling that you have overreached yourself? That you don't really know what you are doing? That you are out of your depth and about to be found out? That everything you have achieved is undeserved?

In that moment you are suffering from Imposter Syndrome.

Do you want to know how the most successful people avoid that?

The simple answer is: They Don't.

One of the most fascinating things about being a coach is realising that almost every person you work with, no matter how successful, feels like an imposter (at least some of the time).

Do you want to know the main way I help people with that?

The simple answer is: I point out that everyone else feels it too.

There's something soothing about knowing that you're not alone. That in the safety and quiet of the coaching room, we share a similar vulnerability.

We're not all "faking it 'til we make it". But we do all live in a complex, shifting world where certainty is hard to come by.

That doesn't make us an imposter. It just makes us human.

So relax. Take a breath. Keep going. You're doing fine 👍
